Ultimate Summer Weekend Bro-Trip: Saratoga Springs, NY -Saturday Night

Saturday Night

Caroline Street on a Saturday Night in August

Power Nap and Coffee: You just spent the entire day drinking right? Well the bars are open until 4:00 a.m. and the best way to enjoy Saratoga is to keep partying until sunrise. In order to do that, you’re going to need to spend about an hour recharging the batteries. My solution, have everyone take a quick powernap. This doesn’t mean go to sleep, but just spend 40 minutes resting your eyes while you listen to Wedding Crashers or some other TBS movie in the background. Then, get a round of coffee’s going. Most of the great Saturday nights I’ve ever had in the recent past involved a cup of coffee ataround 7:00 p.m. It helps stave off the effects of day drinking and also kick starts the night.

Dinner: Last night you went casual, so let’s do it a little nicer tonight. Pennells has the best steak in town and Wheatfields is my go to Italian place.  However, I’m recommending Hatties for your Saturday Night Dinner. Hatties is a Louisiana-Southern style restaurant that makes the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. The restaurant rose to National fame (okay, maybe just regional fame) when head chef Jasper Alexander defeated Super-Chef Bobby Flay in a fried chicken contest on the Food Network show Throw down with Bobby Flay. The restaurant boasts a fun atmosphere and the bold flavors on Jasper’s menu will help waken everyone from their long day of drinking. Also, Flay frequents Hatties’ in the summer, so maybe you’ll see him and get him to join your entourage for the night (he was on that show too).

First Bar Saturday Night:  I like to keep it upscale for my first bar on a Saturday night. That’s why I’m recommending either Sperry’s (Caroline St.) or Maestro’s (Broadway). Sperry’s has a nice outdoor bar area and they make a great gin and tonic to boot. The crowd at Sperry’s is a mix of young and old, but there’s never a shortage of sexy girls there. However, if you want to take a break from the pomposity of the post-track crowd, I’d head over to Maestro’s instead. Maestro’s is really more of a restaurant, but they have a very nice bar area. Plus, I like the idea of going to a restaurant’s bar for a drink. First, crowds of douchebags usually avoid these places. Also, because of the unassuming nature of Maestro's, you can have a conversation with a girl without her thinking your a sleazeball. Stay at Maestro’s or Sperrys’ for about three drinks.

Second Bar Saturday Night: For your second bar of the night, I’m recommending you stay off Caroline St. and head over to Irish Times. Located on Phila St., Irish Times is a two-story Irish Pub with a great outdoor patio on the second floor.  Irish Times can be dead on most nights, but Saturdays in August are a pretty sure bet. First, go to the top floor bar and get a round of car bombs. Then, grab a round of drinks and post-up on the outdoor patio. There’s always a great number of attractive 20 something girls at Irish Times, so be sure you and your boys have your game on point. Really, if you don’t have a group of girls talking to you by at least 1:00 a.m. there’s a good chance none of you are getting any play. Stay at Irish Times until last call and then convince your grous of girls to join you for your next stop.

Third Bar Saturday Night: It’s Gaffney's time! Gaffney's is the staple of the Saratoga Nightlife Scene and the pulse of Caroline Street. Whether or not this bar is actually good is up for interpretation, but it’s very popular among tourists and locals alike.  This bar is always extremely crowded on Saturdays in August, which is why you’re not going there until 2:00 a.m.. Gaffneys has three different bars, one outside, one on the mainfloor, and one upstairs. The outside bar and seating area is usually pretty fun in the summer, however the girls you’re with might get pretty chilly in the cool Upstate New York air. (My tip: always wear a cardigan, that way you can give it to one of the girls later). The main floor will be extremely crowded and is usually filled with tourist douche bags. That said, the upstairs bar is usually filled with local douche bags (myself included).  Basically you’re here to simply keep drinking until 4 a.m., while you and your boys try to close the deal with the girls. After Gaffneys, grab a slice and head back to your place.
